This is a clinical/management position. The Unit Manager is the primary person directly responsible on a 24-hour basis for the dialysis nursing function of the facility, its patients, and staff. Develops policies and procedures, facility goals and objectives, and programs related to clinical practices in dialysis and assumes their implementation. As the recognized oversight and authority for clinical expertise in nursing care practices of the dialysis patient, stimulates and guide the dialysis staff to render the highest quality of patient care and as such. Is responsible for the evaluation of the dialysis facility staff in the way reasonable comprehensive care for all patients is given.The Unit Manager supports educational programs within an environment, which lends itself to teaching, learning and research through in-service education programs, and regular dialysis conferences for the patient care staff. Also, supports both the medical staff and administration through the application of sound management practices. The Unit Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, clinical management, financial and quality management on the unit.Role:* Develops and implements standards of care in accordance with all ESRD Network, State, Federal regulations and facility requirements.* Responsible for overseeing performance of all licensed personnel, direct patient care staff, indirect personnel staff and technical staff when necessary.* Rounds and assesses the delivery of patient care in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.* Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis.* Is supervisory role in accordance with facility policies and procedures.* Responsible for orienting/training new employees, planning, assigning, and directing work.* Ensures annual competency and in-services and completion of documentation.* Sets performance standards and performs job performance appraisals, reviews competency skills, rewards, counsels and disciplines employees.* Updates and maintains all policy manuals.* Ensures all equipment logs and checks are performed as per policy.* Accountable for completion of annual standing orders.* Monitors medication utilization to verify par and usage levels vs. orders.* Assure staff is assigned and properly handles and prepares blood specimen for transport.* Review patient plans of care and physicians orders and evaluates effectiveness, interprets them to staff, and assigns members of staff to implement them.* Assures maintenance of patient records. Assures that patient records, treatment plans, and overall schedules are properly maintained within the facility.* Plans and implements a program of orientation and training for all new dialysis patients and staff.* Maintains integrity of all patient and facility records.* Screens, assists, and makes recommendations for appropriate admissions and discharges.* Accountable for the timely and effective completion of patient assessments, plans of care by the IDT.* Maintains logs of hospitalizations, vaccinations, vascular access and analyzes and presents data to QAPI for action plans performance improvement.* Evaluates patients utilizing catheters as their primary access for timely referral and permanent access placement.* As the designated Anemia Manager, evaluates and reviews lab work for initiation and maintenance of ESA and iron.* Develops/coordinates in-service education programs and regular dialysis conferences for patient care staff.* Coordinates patient scheduling and staff work assignments.* Handles staff complaints and grievances. Recommends appropriate corrective and disciplinary measures, when indicated. Consults with, and seeks assistance from, the administrator on resolution of major issues of conflict.* Makes supply recommendations and notifications of equipment needs to the Chief Technician and Administrator.* Strives to contain cost while not compromising the quality of patient care.* Assumes primary dialysis nurse responsibilities and direct patient care when indicated.* Enforces and carries out (or delegates) patient care policies for the medical director.* Understands basic wage and hour laws, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Medicare and legislation affecting employment in dialysis and nursing services.* Reports and documents all employee injuries according to established policies and procedures.* As a member of the QAPI Committee is responsible monthly for gathering and preparing QAPI data, trending, root cause analysis and action plans in order to achieve standards and goals.* Implements plans of action developed by the QAPI Committee.* Responsible for preparing and submitting data as required by CMS and ESRD network including but not limited to NHSN, NYPORTS/HCS, OSHA 300, IPRO vascular access reports.* Responsible for the integrity and quality of the water system.* Ensures competency of staff assigned to water quality and testing and mixing.* Responsible for assuring an effective emergency preparedness plan is implemented and maintained.* Practices and ensures compliance with all with New York State Health Code, Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses, and the Professional Code of Ethics.* Participates with the Administrator in establishing and implementing standards of practice, which ensures safe, effective, and efficient nursing practice.* Assures that the facility’s patient care is CPR certified.* Maintains an open line of communication with the Administrator, Medical Director, and staff nurses regarding pertinent information and shift related issues affecting reasonable care and nursing function.* Maintains open communication with patients and/or designee.* Accountable for outstanding customer service and interfacility relationshipsJob Type: Full-timeBenefits:* 401(k)* Dental insurance* Health insurance* Paid time offSchedule:* Monday to Friday* Weekend availabilityAbility to commute/relocate:* West Babylon, NY 11704: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)Education:* Associate (Preferred)Experience:* Nursing: 1 year (Preferred)License/Certification:* BLS Certification (Preferred)* RN (Preferred)Work Location: One location
