Head of Talent

Our Client seeks to transform infrastructure through technology. The Company holds, operates, and invests in advanced infrastructure projects, as well as the technology companies applying innovations to enable those projects. Their investors include Alphabet Inc. (Google’s parent company) and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (a large and deeply experienced infrastructure investor). They believe in technology’s ability to make infrastructure more sustainable, intelligent and efficient.

Description of Position: Head of Talent

The Head of Talent will report directly to the CEO of the Company as the most senior executive in the Company’s recruitment efforts. This position is a key member of the leadership team and a critical hire for the Company.

The Head of Talent will have full budget responsibility for the Company’s HR business in New York (and potentially in Palo Alto). Today, talent acquisition efforts are led and managed by the Company’s external recruiter and the firm’s investment professionals, and while a key priority of the CEO, current efforts revolving around recruiting occupies 25% of his time.

The Head of Talent will oversee aspects of People Operations including recruiting and candidate experience, employee on-boarding, training and development, performance management, talent management, engagement, leadership and management, compensation and benefits, plus key areas of HR and employee relations. In addition, all recruiting working group (“RWG”) efforts will report directly to the Head of Talent.

Historically, the Company has hired talent via their own network as well as through the help of outside consultants, including [5] candidates in the last 6 months. Work is currently underway, of which the incoming Head of Talent will take ownership, to drive internal team expansion throughout 2021. These initiatives include hiring [x number of associates] and [x principals] incorporating hiring for ‘culture fit’ in performance management processes and refocusing talent acquisition practices on the top 1% of talent in the industry, through analysis of industry track record as well as qualitative cultural fit perspectives.

Importantly, the Head of Talent will likely expand the team in the New York Office and could in time, as deemed appropriate, build out an extended team in new/other locations.

Strong skills and a demonstrable track record will be required in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, transitioning a business, growing a brand and building an organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

? Serve as most senior leader in HR and as the key advisor on all matters of Talent to the the Company’s CEO.

? Increase the visibility of People function at the Company through the successful execution of current initiatives.

Examples of initiatives underway include hiring 3-6 internal professionals by the end of 2021 and conducting performance reviews, as well as managing key employee relation issues.

? Support branded growth of the Company. Leading other such projects which drive velocity of the Company’s brand awareness as a tech forward infrastructure PE firm is critical.

? Develop long-term growth plans. Once the Company platform is scaled, the business needs a leader to identify where it needs to get to and how it will get there from a talent perspective.

? Build case for geographical expansion. The incoming Head of Talent will understand the markets in which the Company operates, with immediate focus on New York and San Francisco, and develop a plan of action for each one.

? Create a winning organization and a breakthrough culture. This will require formalizing cultural assessments and securing top class talent.

Requirements

? At least 5-10 years of experience in positions of increased responsibility, culminating in a strategic or management role, within at least one of the following disciplines: Talent Acquisition, Executive Search, Talent & Organization.

? Past or current experience as a VP of Talent of a business of similar size and scope to the Company. Proven ability to work with cross function and cross border teams. Experience in managing a budget.

? Experience transitioning a business through change and scaling an organization’s talent function from scratch.

? A track record and reputation within the PE or Tech industry of creating value.

? Demonstrated ability to build a strong team to support the achievement of goals and objectives.

? Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

? Strong sense of urgency and demonstrated ability to “get it done.”

? Enjoys creative problem solving and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

? Must embrace a “firm first” mentality, be consistently rigorous in producing quality work product, foster internal collaboration, and embrace accountability to outcomes.
