VP Podcasts

The Role  

This role will require an individual comfortable and adept with building strategy and driving incremental value across many content partnerships.  We need someone who can roll-up their sleeves (think big + pay attention to detail) while also being more tactical to identify problems impacting content growth.

What You Will Do

  • Execute growth for podcast listening and engagement on Company’s platform
  • Business development and strategic partnerships: establish and manage relationships with producers and secure content partnerships with major podcast production companies. 
  • Measure and improve the breadth, depth, and timeliness of podcast platform engagement 
  • Acquire unique, compelling, and cutting-edge content, studying Company’s audience and outside platforms to set listening goals and targets for each individual podcast partnership.
  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate with the finance, data, marketing and sales to generate revenue-generating sponsorship opportunities for both premium and ad-supported podcasts
  • Manage relationships to grow incremental revenue and value for existing podcast partners
  • Focus on partnership management and upkeep; main POC’s for partners in each vertical with frequent touchpoints (meetings, calls, and webinars)
  • Ensure content is up to date, the partner is receiving necessary reports, and content is being promoted appropriately
  • Study Company’s current platform audience to measure and set listening goals and targets for each of the four audio formats (broadcast, news, sports, music) that have supporting podcasts
  • Serve as the primary liaison to collaborate with the content, sales, marketing, analytics, design, engineering, product, and finance teams to drive Company content initiatives in podcasting.
  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate with sales to generate incremental revenue  opportunities with prospective podcast market resellers or broadcast partners
  • Monitor competition closely to assess the competitive advantages and disadvantages of other podcast platforms in comparison to Company.
  • Proactively communicate to Company’s content partners to make them aware of Company platform benefits, tools, emerging third-party distribution partners.

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years experience in content acquisition for a large media and entertainment business at the intersections of media/entertainment and technology (audio or video streaming platform preferred), with 4+ years of experience at the Director/Senior Director level.  1+ years of experience at a private startup company. 
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from data, with experience partnering with finance to evaluate existing and prospective content partnerships and deals to maximize value in both short-term and long-term strategy (cost of content per listening hour and value across all Company content genres)
  • Demonstrated results in development and execution of strategy to build and maintain successful business internal and internal partnerships
  • A can-do attitude and strong bias to action. Always seeking to improve through change and innovation
  • Ability to set measurable goals for the team and reliably execute on them
  • Success partnering closely with business development, finance, and licensing.
  • Detailed industry knowledge across entertainment, digital, and technology, with a pulse on emerging trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to address both business and technical audiences, and experience presenting to executives/decision-makers
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment, including collaborating actively and effectively on multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment, with the ability to show flexibility and agility to pivot daily from strategic to tactical. 

Skills That Are A Plus

  • Knowledge and passion for the audio space and the news, talk, sports, and music formats
  • Experience with both digital audio and subscription service
  • Proficiency in Excel, Keynote, and PowerPoint
  • Experience establishing and managing connected device partnerships
