Internal Description and Requirements

With over 150 years of excellence behind us, Barrett Paving Materials is part of the Barrett Industries Group of Ifrastructure Construction Companies.   

We are currently seeking a driver that will be based out of out Jamesville location. This position will require the driver to deliver aggregates and bituminous paving materials to job sites, customer locations and production facilities while operating safely and with In DOT rules and requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Must operate truck equipped with a dump body or live bottom chassis to transport and dump loose material such as sand, gravel, crushed rock and bituminous paving materials
  • Must have skills to conduct pre-trip inspection checklist on equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water.
  • Must be able to handle paperwork concerning Department of Transportation regulations, freight weigh bills, fuel tickets and load tickets.
  • Must be able to carry out detailed instructions, take directions to job sites, but also must be able to use good judgement in decision making and be able to work without direct supervision. 
  • Must be able to oil, grease and fuel truck.
  • Must have the ability to operate the vehicle safely in traffic situations and follow the policies and procedures of the company. 
  • Must comply with company hours of service rules and regulations

 

Qualifications:

  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Minimum 1 year in DOT driving position and training or equivalent of education and experience
  • Class B CDL with medical card
  • Proven track record working safely
  • Must be able to climb onto and up and down a vehicle several times a day
  • Must be able to sit in a vehicle and operate it for several hours without stopping
  • Must withstand vibration from truck, road, and job site conditions as well as noise from the truck engine, other equipment and other traffic
  • Must be able to use arms, hands and feet in repetitive motions
  • Must be able to perform manual duties, such as sweeping/shoveling debris and rocks out of the truck bed, handle tarpaulins, and tailgate chains.
  • Overtime as required
  • Must comply with all DOT regulations
  • Good work ethic, professional and positive attitude
  • 10 hour OSHA certification is required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Abiltiy to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or dialogue form.   Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
