Adult Literacy Case Manager

Literacy Programming is a part of Henry Street Settlement’s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division providing a continuum of services from early childhood education through adult workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency.

Our Adult Literacy programs provide basic skills needed to thrive in work and in life.

Our ESOL Basics program helps more than 160 English language learners each year improve their English skills and our HSE Program helps more than 135 adults work towards their high school equivalency credential. 

Job Summary:

The Adult Literacy Case Manager will support program participants in achieving their education goals by providing supportive services.

Working in concert with instructors and program staff, the Case Manager will provide a constellation of services designed to help participants thrive.

This is a new position funded by DYCD to help increase the overall attendance and retention rates of participants. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree and at least two years of relevant experience or HSD/HSE and five years relevant experience required.
  • Experience providing individual counseling, and case management.
  • Ability to engage, build relationships, and demonstrate empathy with adult learners and adult English language learners. 
  • Diverse cultural competence required
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and follow through skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to be resourceful, efficient, flexible, and effectively work under pressure
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel, email correspondence, and database management

Responsibilities:

  • Provide case management services to participants enrolled in ESOL Basics courses and HSE program
  • Assist participants in identifying and removing barriers to regular program participation
  • Provide outreach and engagement services to participants who stop attending
  • Collaborate with instructors and other program staff to learn more about participants needs; attend classes to develop relationship with students
  • Refer participants to internal and/or external supportive services as needed
  • Track progress of efforts and outcomes using databases and other tracking tools
  • Participate in various contractual, program, division, and agency meetings and activities
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
