Position Summary

NYU Stern is one of the largest and most multifaceted business schools in the world and has always been among the most innovative schools programmatically.

The School has over 5,000 students and a suite of degree and certificate programs, including the flagship undergraduate and full-time MBA programs; part-time, Executive and Global Executive MBA programs; a range of MS degrees; and newly-launched, one-year focused MBAs in New York and Executive MBA in Washington, DC.

NYU Stern has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director, School-wide Initiatives, in the Dean’s Office.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for School-wide Initiatives, the Associate Director will manage all aspects of a portfolio of School-wide events and programs sponsored by the Dean’s Office, including receptions, conferences, retreats, and meetings, as well as new programs.

They will manage all event-related operations and logistics, including related pre-and post-event communications.

They will also manage a host of special projects, especially supporting the Assistant Dean’s work with School-wide initiatives and will support the dean’s communications to internal and external audiences.

They will review and ameliorate the quality of pre-existing and new events and programs; collaborate with and support colleagues across the team and the School; balance multiple and concurrent projects; and produce deliverables in a timely fashion.

They will be responsible for continuous improvement, and will be expected to develop, recommend, implement, and document strategic changes to practice and procedures.

They will work closely with the Assistant Dean to align products and standards, and will anticipate and foster beneficial collaborations with other departments across the School, and with affiliated University units.

They will provide expertise, training, support, and guidance to three other Dean’s office staff members, as needed.

As a member of the Dean’s office, they will motivate others to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, modeling departmental values and building the culture.


The selected candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, implementing, and managing, events, programs, and operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven project management, problem solving, relationship building, and superlative communication skills are essential.

Proven ability to manage sensitive issues with judgment and discretion is also required.

Experience assisting a high-level executive in an academic or a corporate environment is preferred.

Some evenings and weekends are required.
