Communications Manager

Debevoise is seeking a full-time Communications Manager to become a senior member of the Communications team, which is part of the firm’s Practice Management and Marketing Department. The selected candidate will join three other strong communications professionals and report to the Director of Global Communications.

This position requires serving as the lead communications counselor to a subset of 2-3 designated practice and industry groups, in areas spanning media relations, Web content, social media, video content and awards and recognition strategies. The right candidate will have excellent media relations skills, strong writing capabilities across different formats and channels, and a willingness to stay on top of relevant business and legal issues in key industries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute public relations plans and strategies to promote Debevoise’s thought leadership, corporate transactions and litigation wins and firmwide news.
  • Create and assist with a variety of content including Web announcements, social media posts, videos, press releases and award submissions.
  • Assist with communications strategies and tactics for internal communications and sensitive issues / crisis management.
  • Collaborate with the firm’s external public relations agency to develop and execute PR plans/strategies and on metrics and media reports for presentation to Debevoise’s senior management.

Success Factors:

  • Deep understanding of communications strategies around complex business and legal matters including media engagement, content development and spokesperson coaching and preparation.
  • Able to absorb and translate large quantities of complex information into compelling, well-crafted narratives across multiple channels including media pitches, social content, award submissions, internal mailings and other areas.
  • Can help lead a team responding to sensitive issues, working closely with partners, the Office of the General Counsel and other senior leaders, remaining cool-headed during stressful situations and showing strong judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent writing skills (including memos, plans and media/social media content) and attention to detail.
  • Highly responsive to media and internal stakeholders.
  • Capable of building strong, collaborative and positive relationships with peers of all levels and across teams.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-10 years in media relations and communications in a law firm, consulting firm, investment bank, private equity firm or other financial or professional services firm (or equivalent PR agency focus).
  • Bachelor’s degree, with advanced degree or study preferred.
