Silgan Dispensing Systems is searching for a Director, Global Safety with proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive corporate health and safety programs, focusing on risk reduction, loss control, safety, and compliance.

Position Summary: 

This is an opportunity for a senior-level professional to advance their career and to make a significant impact in implementing Silgan’s global health and safety programs. The Director, Global Safety will work collaboratively with key departments at Silgan Dispensing, including Executive Management, Human Resources, Legal and Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The position requires strong skills in working across functions and applying analytical, leadership and management skills to safety program development and execution. 

Responsibilities: 

We are looking for someone who has direct experience in regulatory health and safety compliance in manufacturing across a global platform with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, build consensus and create behavioral based safety programming and systems to drive strong safety results and accountability. 

Job Requirements

Functions: 

Ensures compliance with relevant global health and safety regulations, as well as with corporate policies and procedures. 

Outlines enhancements to the Silgan Dispensing Safety Management System 

Creates a strategic roadmap to achieve a zero incident culture 

Implements initiatives to train the workforce on safety policies and practices and to reduce the level of work-related accidents and/or occupational hazards. 

Conducts routine safety audits when due and/or assists with external safety audits. 

Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing workplace conditions and behavioral practices to eliminate or minimize occupational health and safety hazards.

Collaborates within the organization to drive health and safety solutions on a continuous improvement model, for example, by modifying work processes, equipment, or facilities. 

Manages incident reporting, internal and external, and manages root cause analysis and ensures implementation of corrective actions. 

Manages and prioritizes projects in a fast-paced environment.

Fosters strong corporate global health and safety culture. 

Oversees annual site audit process 

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health science, occupational and environmental health, toxicology or related science, engineering, physical science or life science. 

Accreditation as a Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional a plus. 

10+ years of health and safety experience in manufacturing. 

Prefer global safety management experience. 

Prefer Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma background 

Prefer experience in Safety Technology Systems 

Strong leader and strategic thinker 

Well organized with solid project management and long
– and short-term planning skills.

Demonstrated successful communication skills, including ability to interact with all levels in the organization and to motivate strong safety behaviors. 

Ability to travel 25-40% across global platform
