n n nnFounded in 1842, the New York Philharmonic is the oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, and one of the oldest in the world.

Each season the Philharmonic connects with up to 50 million music lovers through live concerts in New York City, worldwide tours, and residencies, as well as its digital recording series; international broadcasts on television, radio, and online; and through its varied education programs and expansive digital archive.

With the renovation of David Geffen Hall, the New York Philharmonic is now poised for transformation, exciting growth, and development.nn nnThe Vice President, Artistic Planning is responsible for all aspects of the New York Philharmonic’s artistic programming and season planning.

Working in conjunction with the Music Director, President and CEO and Managing Director, this senior level position will spearhead and coordinate season planning including the selection of repertoire, the engagement of guest artists and conductors, commissioning of new works, and identifying emerging talent.

The Vice President, Artistic Planning will be a collaborative partner, working closely with interdepartmental colleagues across the organization, as well as musicians of the orchestra.nn nnResponsibilities:nn nn?

Oversee all artistic planning, including repertoire selection and engagement of all artists (including conductors, composers, solo artists, and ensembles) for the New York Philharmonic.nn nn?

Serve as a key staff member in developing the overall season budget.nn nn?

Cultivate relationships with performing artists, conductors and multi-disciplinary artists and their respective managers and representatives.nn nn?

Actively search for and identify conductors, artists, composers, and collaborators of underrepresented backgrounds to be showcased on the New York Philharmonic’s mainstage.nn nn?

Oversee the commissioning of new works, as well as administer the New York Philharmonic’s contemporary music series in collaboration with the orchestra’s Contemporary Music Committee.nn nn?

Work with Education department to align programming with community engagement initiatives and goals.nn nn?

Work in conjunction with the Vice President, Production and Venues and the Orchestra Personnel Manager in the development of the season service grid.nn nn?

Partner with the Vice President, Production and Venues in the planning and developing staged and multi-disciplinary productions.nn nn?

Represent the New York Philharmonic on panels, in public discussions, and other public facing forums.nn nn?

Support the Managing Director and Vice President, Production and Venues in maintaining and cultivating relationships with tour and residency presenters and partners throughout the world.nn nn?

Serve as the primary management representative to the orchestra’s Artistic Advisory Committee.nn nn?

Manage artistic staff, overseeing both the Office of the Music Director and all elements of artist hospitality and administration.nn nn?

5 years’ experience working as a senior artistic leader at a major orchestra or arts institution.nn nn?

Demonstrable commitment to diversity in artistic programming.nn nn?
